UPDATE

OK  people - thanks for all the great ideas so far. Believe me we are working hours and hours and hours to get most of what's been suggested in and ready for the Version 1.0.. It's already in beta test so once the kinks have been straightened we'll figure out a launch date. I'll keep this forum open anyway for any more great stuff.

The ability to lvl your besties up, instead of them being a certain lvl, up to like 100, and be able to edit their stat points, like a rpg sorta, that would be fun and addictive, since ur gonna add online play

Why don't you add a bag or backpack where you can hold like 8 of yuor favorite ones
And maybe make some barcodes be like hats or shirts food or like things that make them strogoner ..
Like a defense potion that will make then stronger by 1 attribuyte or a health that maked there health highre
That's would be awsome .. but besides for these this is a great concept for a game

1. Morphing creatures..... I.e if I scanned one barcode and leveled it up to a certain lvl being able to morph andother one with it to make it more power full

2. Once multiplayers up being able to trade creatures ....

Why not have a list of all the beasties you've scanned in the past? Or have a database to store them instead of having just one?

Or being able to keep the beaties you scanned ONLY if you have one stored that is strong enough to defeat it? If you defeat it, you can keep it! And the first one you scan is what you start off with...or maybe even a default?

Now it would take some work, but what if instead of just the words at the bottom, the beasts actually moved over and attacked or slashed , nothing fancy or 3d but like the pokemon fight style. could you make the attack lower cause all my battles still end pretty quick. And instead of being in the 2 boxes it was just the creatures there. Hmmm and I really would like to have the other features suggested on this page. Good job though man its fun.

Simple but I would like to be able to name the beasts I save. And that would be really good for whenever u add online play , then there would be a way to tell who's the best and prevent the possiblity of having like 50 with the same name online. Also have you thought of having leaderboards for the online feature,

Some barcodes (UPS) contain Letter characters while others are numeric only (Fedex, UPC products, etc), what if this was a Carnivore versus Plant eater determining factor?

What if the barcodes were combined to formulate the entire dna strands of creatures. For example,

An Electric T-Rex could be, a barcode with Letters (meat eater) + UPC of book about reptiles/dinosaurs + UPC of book about electricity. Hopefully, you could plug the UPC symbols into http://www.upcdatabase.com and parse the result to find out what the barcode's characteristic would be.

0012569594142 is Batman Begins DVD... which could be the power of flight, a mutation of bat wings, or simply some 'Bat Scare' spell. Randomly, of course.

Just a crazy thought.

All the ideas I've read are great. Here are some of mine based on those concept.

*ITEM*
The beast should have the capability to carry up to 5 item per battle. have items that have permenent and temporary effects on the beast.

*CLASS*
Have diffrent type of best classes, (I.e. warrior, dragon, zombi, ect. ) each with his own special attack and weakness. Even have elemental classes ( I.e. light, dark, water, lightning, fire, earth, wood. Etc.)

*LEVEL*
Each beast capable of leveling up due to battles and items equipped on the beast. (I.e. the more he battles the stronger he gets and to boost speed or agility) have the beast take a potion or fuse a gem with your beast from the item list to improove your beast.

*WEAPON*
Be able to equip a weapon or 2, depending on the type and weight of the weapon ( e.I. dual blade, 2handed, 32oz. +1 speed attack +7. Or basterd sword 1 handed, 5lbs. -6 speed, attack +10).

*EQUIPMENT*
To be able to equip protective armor with special attributes. (I.e. a dragon breathes fire the you would equip a shield or an enchanted helmet that would negate or reduce the effects.)

*SCANNING*
Let the scan be some what random. It should be the the harder the barcode is to find the more rare the item and only able to scan it 3 times per character and be able to trade rare items for others items but still keep one or two to improve you're beast. We should start out with the same beast ( like semi human figure) and as we scan more and more it will gives us diffrent skills, and items that will start shaping our beast. ( I.e. scanned a box of cereal and you found a dark cristal, using it would turn you're beast in to a dark beast but adding a reptile scale to that would turn you into a dark dragon. So that way it becomes more challenging and addicting. This way you would be scanning anything that would come across your phone and every beast is unique to the user.

A few ideas that have cropped up during a weekly Barcode Beasties tournament we run:

1. Built-in tournament system (think NCAA-style playoffs), or even better, a balanced double- or triple-elimination tournament (like one of these: http://www.tournamentdesign.org/)
2. Automatic upload of your beasties to a personal collection either here or somewhere else
3. Manual input of UPC codes (we currently pluck them from a supermarket and then re-generate them for scanning via a website)
4. The ability to run fights multiple times (best x out of y format)
5. The ability to have the beasties that just finished a fight have another fight (rather than re-scanning in the bar codes, as is currently required)

I know this may make it seem like pokemon, but what if you can choose your creature's attacks? It would make the battle last a bit longer and make it more interesting.

If you have droidsoft installed (rooted G1), it allows for sensor to detect if your holding your phone sideways, and switches the view (like how it looks when you open the keyboard. This resets the barcodes you scanned. This would be a great addition to fix. Thanks.

fighting/battle style : make it sumthing very similar 2 da pokemon action as yuh see on da pokemon games for da gameboy. da ability 2 choose a diff attak nd having a certain amount of hp nd being able 2 see da action of da characters wud b a lot enjoyable. also da 2 able 2 hold items 2 help out da beastie isn't a bad idea either.

anoder great update wud b 2 b able 2 challenge oder barcode beastie gamers.

If you could look through your beasties, edit their names, and choose your beasties to battle each other. That'd be a nice feature. And all the other ideas are excellent. Can't wait for the updates. Very excited. I love rpg games.

Here is a quick Idea. Each time your Beastie wins a battle the would collect experience points giving them different abilities at different levles

Also what if there was a prize for a battle. Like a new weapon or ability.

It would be kind of cool if there were a SMS Beastie that you could play with a friend that was in Wal Mart and your in Wal Greens and you happen to find a Level 12 Death Knight on a box of V8 Juice box 10 oz 8 pack and you don't have to wait to battle. Just send the Text.

I know people said these already but they seemed like really good ideas so I guess there is no harm on emphasizing them.

Leveling up, that would make the game a real keeper, it would be the hook for everybody to keep playing.

Morphing, another really fun idea imagine morphing an orc with a clown, or clowns that have reached a certain level then morphing them into a Joker, or just simply being able to evolve your clown into a joker at level ten or something.

Start us off with default beasties, a good idea so that if somebody strikes gold in the form of a beastie we all will not be destroyed so easily. It should be that the more time you put in the better your beastie is.

Multiplayer... there isn't to much you can say except amazing.

Being able to name your beasties would be fun because you could avoid confusion and express yourself through your own beastie and it will keep the game unique.

Also I do not know if you were even considering doing this but I just want to say, you shouldn't make expensive items more rare. That would be really unfair for some people, keep it at a level where everybody can play. If your aim is to make scertain beasties harder to find then I am sure you could find a good survey on google that shows products that teens interact with the least.

Also in multiplayer you should have stakes kind of like a duel arena, where player a and player b each put a beastie up that thwy both agee on and then winner takes all.

The last idea I would like to point out is that you should only be able to carry a certain amount of beasties like ten, and then have like a storage device for the others that you have captured.

Ohh and I know I said that was my last point but this will be my last one, make it so that if you kill a beastie you will have the option to capture it. But if your beastie ends up dying all it does is faint. Imagine putting in hours of leveling up your beasty for it just to die?

Well that's my input on previous ideas and I also threw in some other ideas, I hope I helped in anyway. You guys are doing a good thing with this, keep it up! I also hope you guys can drop a release date for version one, I know I'm dying to know.

I love the ideas so far, Really looking forward to the multi player, are you thinking of doing it using Bluetooth or SMS or something else?

I have a few little "glitches" that could be fixed to improve the current game, here they are:
When a beastie wins a fight, its text goes Green but it stays green for future games even if it loses or another creature is scanned to fight it. Maybe the loser could go red, winner go green and when a new beastie is scanned, both go white.
Opening the keypad clears the beasties
In a long battle, the screen doesn't scroll all the way down, it misses the last two comments so you have to scroll to find out who won.

I also have some improvements/suggestions:
When you Load a beastie, instead of just showing the name (Cresp), it could show what it is (Cresp - Lvl:3 Ghost)
You should be able to save either beastie in the battle, not just the last one you scanned. Also, you should be able to load a beastie to either slot rather than just the left one.
It would be nice if when you 'long-pressing' a beastie, it brings up info about it (No. of wins/loses, edit name etc.)

Really looking forward to seeing the next version in the market!

If they are adding a lvling system for beasties, wouldn't it be kinda abused if you could load beasties on both sides?

Like, for example....you could lvl up your beasties by loading a low lvl on one side and the one you're lvling on the other so it's a fixed match. Lvling is no fun if you can cheat at it...

I want to name Mine lol, or maybe even slightly change its' color? I ESPECIALLY want to change the color on my mother-in-law beastie >.< Make her red...LIKE THE DEVIL BUWA

I can't scan my car, nor my friends car, which both have barcodes on the inside drivers door frame.

Hello, just wanted to say what a great idea to bring this old skool game back to life again with your own twist. I wanted looked for this site so I could throw a little loot towards your program, even though it is for free. You should really set up a donation link, for instance a paypal donation bar. So people can donate if they wanted to. Keep up the great work!

Just a subtle game play mechanic - on defeating an enemy, the highest stat of the enemy could be "absorbed" by the winner, causing it to increase slightly more than the other stat increases.

On the reverse of this, if the loser was holding a certain item, it could cause a slight decrease in one or more stats in the winner.

This is turning out to be an interesting game - hopefully a reason for me to buy a Google Phone :)

Set up a downloadable scheme so we are not limited to just haloween chars.....set up a pirate, battle tech tm. Robot chars. Or futureistc spin... also being able to train or enhance our char would be nice. And tournament play. And last but not least seasonal gear

For the multiplayer add like experiance points to level up your beastie.... add some items ..... And you should only allow a certain ammount of scans per day or hour and once a month or something give a chance to be able to scan a super rare beastie

I dunno if its been said. Are you gonna make it so we can delete beasties we've stored? I have a few i stored that are weak If your not gonna allow these creatures to level or get dome kind of power up then i want to delete it.

I know it may not be possible but I would pay for it with noooooo problem if you could have some sort of arena or even some type of battle animation. A way to save the ones you love and be able to train and increase their HP levels I know you guys are coming with the multiplayer ability for Barcode Beasties and I can't wait!!!



I'm sure you’re already aware but if you only knew what potential for expansion you have with this game I’ll be waiting patiently for this game to improve.

There was an old haldheld toy called scannerz. Basically if you where able to scan stuff and keep like up to 5, then you could name them and train them. Kinda like pokemon. That would be aweasome. But there needs to be more to it then just 2 spots to scan and battle... boringgg.

The ability 2 lvl up would be good, but if u were goin 2 use tht, thn mabey u should make some type of egg or kid versions of the monster. I dnt know about u, but I kinda h8 the fact tht u can find a "Highly" lvld monster in just lik tht.

I was messing around with the app. [basicaly scanning anything I could get my hands on] till I finally get a lvl 9 NINJA, with baddass weapons...the only problem I got was tht his name was Qunwan Che... now I know ninjas are frm Japan but...wtf? This ain't star wars... any thought of renaming ur monster an option. If not plz reconsider.

I think this may have been thrown out there already but if I could use pictures from my phone as the beastie icon and also name it myself that would be pretty cool. Uhh ..it would conflict with the people who want more animation than just a battle log but I'm fine with the battle log. This idea would probably require the game to keep its current simplicity.

not sure if this is the right place but currently users of the tattoo can not get your app. Aaprently this is because the tattoo has a QVGA screen and developers need to specifically indicate that their app works in the resolution before it will appear to users in the market.

Not sure hwo simple this is but would be good, not sure what other phones have this issue too
